Reduce steam trap losses with efficiency
How it Works
Green Box Telemetrix uses removable thermal insulating covers embedded with wireless technology to indicate the health condition of a steam trap. The operator interface provides a global view of the traps in a system and exactly which trap is failing. Notifications are sent via e-mail and text when a failing condition occurs. History and trends are available to track the overall health of the traps.
Features
Insulated Cover
Green Box high-quality insulating covers are custom fit to each steam trap. Covers are easy to install and remove with Velcro fasteners. Insulating steam traps can:
Reduce energy loss by 80%
Reduce fuel costs
Protect operating staff
A unique feature on each cover is the “walk-by” indicator showing relative internal temperature.
Red or “hot” means the trap is not plugged
Green or “cold” means that the trap or inlet strainer are plugged, causing a backup of condensate
A buildup of condensate will cause the trap temperature to fall below the steam temperature as heat is conducted away from the stagnant liquid. The Green Box insulated cover is designed to be easily removed to blowdown a strainer or service an orifice or mechanical trap and be replaced in seconds.
Visual Indicator
QR Tagging
Each Green Box insulating cover includes a QR code readable by any smart phone. The code links to the information page for that specific trap, including:

Real Time Monitoring
Each Green Box insulating cover includes a wireless transmitter that senses inlet steam and outlet condensate temperature. Applications are available for desktop or cell phone to see and interpret the data in real time. Trending of temperatures is available to show changes in the state of the trap or system, and alarms can be set for text or email notifications should a temperature go beyond the setpoint indicating a possible trap failure. An alarm text will include the date, time and trap location so that corrective action can be taken immediately, minimizing any losses or possible detrimental effects of a failed trap.
Isolated Long Distance Wireless
The system uses LoRaWAN wireless technology for signaling between transmitters and a single gateway that can handle as many as 1000 transmitters. The gateway is completely isolated from plant-wide communications and control signals. Data collected is regularly uploaded to cloud storage via a 5G wireless connection. Ethernet options are available for installations with limited cellular coverage or for incorporation into plant-wide Data Acquisition systems.
Transmitter Power Options
The base Green Box system includes long life batteries that are in a hibernation state except when transmitting. Alternatively, each Green Box can be provided with a Thermal Harvesting option, eliminating batteries and providing for enhanced periodic transmission of data.
